benji, while it isn't strictly necessary for a basic site, if you want to do anything big with your site in the future it will be a good idea to learn html, and a scripting language. I'm not sure what, if any serverside scripting is available on the service stevo mentioned, but at the very least you might want to look into vbscript or jscript. There are loads of tutorials on both scripting languages and html on the web. For your first site though, it may be as well to just go with a page creation wizzard. Most webspace providers have those. It's how I created my first website with geocities, before the days of capture or however you spel it. A good place to start learning all this stuff is http://www.w3schools.com/.
Hope this helps,a dn if youhave any further questions just post it here, or let me know when I'm on.
Cheers,
Simon

hmm. Souds like they're talking about running your own web server. That is of course, a scenario where you'll *have to * look into security. You dont' have to run your own web server though, to have a web site. When you just have a website, on someone else's server. you write the html code, and upload it to the server, just like .. an audio profile on here or whatever. then it's just a case of telling people the address of your site. The only security issue I can think of this way, is if you put an email address up there, so people can contact you, you'll need to put in measures against spam, but that's about it.
hth,
Simon

Hi Benji. I've got some bad news and some good news.

Bad news: One thing to remember is that once you've gotten your web site built (and I would advise keeping it very simple), you will need an ftp program to upload it to your chosen server.

Good news: you can start learning html from the w3school immediately and read your own web page without anything else but an internet browser like internet explorer. The drawback is that noone else will be able to see your page until you upload it to a server.

Hope this helps, and as others have said, any questions just ask here or through a quicknote.

Bob

If you use a site such as freewebs then you can take advantage of there site building features and its all free.
One thing to bare in mind is that website owners will often have different views about how you should start out.
Some would say that you should learn the nitty gritty streight away and learn to script in php or js or what ever so that you kno it for later.
I don't agree withthis method, I think that you should just for your first site at least use a website creation program which will give you much nicer looking and much better coded pages.
If you want to take it to the next level then by all means learn html.
Fyi, I really didn't intend for that to be interprited as flaming any of the suggestions in other posts.
